Pumpkinseed Lepomis gibbosus

Description

Pumpkinseed is a North American species in the order of perciforms (Perciformes) that maybe resembles more basses (Moronidae) than perches (Percidae). The sunfish family (Centrarchidae) includes several species and it has been proposed to be transferred to a new order of sunfishes (Centrarchiformes). Pumpkinseed, after which the family has been named, is known as colorful aquarium and pond fish, which is why it has been exported around the world.
