Lake frog Pelophylax ridibundus

Description

The lake frog is a large-sized green frog growing up to 15 cm long. The pattern and coloring of the dorsal side varies greatly depending on the habitat. The lake frog very much resembles the other European water frogs, from which it is distinguished by, among others, a small metatarsal tubercle and, in comparison to size, long hind legs.

The lake frog is loud, and its vocalizations sounds like laughter, croaking and cackling. The croaking is strongest in early summer, but lake frogs are noisy throughout the summer also during the day.
